“Sad little solitaire, sad little hermit. Wandering so far and near, has no self-worth to it.” - Tycho Sint, a poet from Sigil
A berbalang is a gaunt biped with black, leathery skin, glowing eyes and bat wings. It is mostly in a comatose state while its spirit wanders the astral plane to philosophize, court and mate. It is a cowardly creature, preferring to avoid combat if possible. Because it sometimes follows an astral creature around for observation, it is also called a stalker. It is a mystery how it mates in astral form or how its incorporeal prime projection is able to feed on physical creatures, leaving only bones behind. It moves its physical lair during the night once every 3-4 months.
Astral Projection (Sp): A berbalang can project its astral form at will as per astral projection spell. CL=HD. Furthermore, it is aware of the threat if its body is injured in any way, e.g. any form of damage or gaining of negative levels.
Prime Projection (Sp): Once a month during full moon, a berbalang returns to the prime material plane to feed on a humanoid. This is similar to astral projection (CL=HD), except that it projects its spirit out of its body, not to the astral plane, but to remain in the prime material plane. This projected self can travel up to 3 miles from its body and has the incorporeal subtype. If the projection is destroyed, it must make a DC 15 fortitude save or die from system shock. Damage done to the projection is not sustained by the physical body. This ability can be used 1/day.
